TO: US Synchronized Swimming Members
This year the convention focus will be on education, with many opportunities for you to attend various seminars and clinics. Following is a list of educational courses and seminars to look forward to:
§ To begin the action packed week, we are offering 1 CCP course - "Sport Psychology". This course is offered on Tuesday, September 9th. Pre-registration is required, more information can be found at www.usasynchro.org..
§ Also, on Tuesday, training for our International Judge Level 7 rating will be offered. This level is available for all Level 6 retaining national judges and is strongly recommended to further your education on the international trends, which will serve to enhance your judging of our national level competitors. If interested in attending the Level 7 training, please contact Training Chair Carol Tackett prior to convention.
§ Once again, Officials Training for Level 4 & higher will be offered at convention on Wednesday, September 10th. Again, please contact Training Chair Carol Tackett prior to convention. Any judges interested in taking their written tests for Levels 4, 5 or 6 on Wednesday should contact our Testing Chair Mary Ellen Wiegand prior to convention.
§ Four exciting seminars will be offered on Wednesday and will be repeated again on Thursday so everyone will have an opportunity to participate in all four seminars. The topics are "International Trends in Routines" lead by Officials Vice President Pam Edwards and a panel of expert national team coaches and international judges, "Health Issues for Athletes" offered by a representative from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, "Height, Extension, Precision, Presentation" offered by our National Team Director, Dr. Linai Vaz de Negri and a 4th seminar dealing with nutrition.
§ If you are a College Coach or are interested in collegiate coaching, join Collegiate Task Force Chair Nancy Wightman for a 2-part seminar on Wednesday and Friday to discuss topics such as NCAA rules, time management, politics of the college campus and recruiting.
§ A Challenge Test for the Level 1 CCP course will be offered on Wednesday. Pre-registration is required, more information can be found online.
§ On Thursday, September 11th the Image & Promotion Committee will offer two seminars, which focus on club and event marketing as well as athlete recruitment.
§ An open forum is scheduled for Thursday. Discussion will be focused on the hot topics of the week. Once again, Rules Chair Carole Mitchell will be leading the discussion.
§ In addition, to our normal committee meetings, the Vice Presidents and staff will be meeting with their respective LSSC chairs on Friday, September 12th. We have reinstated these meetings to increase communication between volunteers and staff as well as to review the roles of the LSSC chairs. I strongly recommend that all LSSC chairs attend their respective meetings.
§ At this time, I would like to extend an invitation to everyone to attend the Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings. These meetings are held on Tuesday, September 9th and Sunday, September 14th. All Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings are open to the public. Only when we need to discuss confidential matters will we go into Executive Session and I will ask visitors to leave the room. So, please attend and see exactly what your board members do for our sport!
If you have any questions prior to convention, feel free to contact the National Office at 317-237-5700. See you in San Diego!
